Christmas Cards for Soldiers

Are you looking for an easy service project for your pack or troop? If so, check out this link to: https://www.usasoa.org/christmas-cards-for-our-deployed-troops

Simply follow their directions and do a good deed for those who fight for and serve our country. This may seem a little early to send out Christmas greetings, but as long as you ship them to Washington, DC by the week of Veterans Day (Nov. 11th), they should arrive in time to be shipped around the world.

Note: If Cub Scouts do such an activity, there is a way for them to earn an award. The same could be true for our older Scouts.

Editor's Note: As of this writing I want to thank the scouts who helped to send 250 cards to Washington, DC for our deployed troops. I could not have done it without you. Hope to see your next year in October. I will come to your unit if you contact me at

SONGS

Here are some songs to fill in your meetings and events

We're Here For Fun

(Tune: “Auld Lang Syne”)

We’re here for fun right from the start,
So drop your dignity;
Just laugh and sing with all your heart,
And show your loyalty.

May all your troubles be forgot,
Let this night be the best;
Join in the songs we sing tonight,
Be happy with the rest.

A Popcorn Song

(“Sing a song of sixpence”)

Sing a song of popcorn
When the snowstorms rage;
Fifty little round men
Put into a cage
Shake them till they laugh and leap
Crowding to the top;
Watch them burst their little coats

Pop!! Pop!! Pop!!

THE TURKEY SHOT OUT OF THE OVEN

("My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean")

The turkey shot out of the oven
and rocketed into the air,
it knocked every plate off the table
and partly demolished a chair.

It ricocheted into a corner
and burst with a deafening boom,
then splattered all over the kitchen,
completely obscuring the room.

It stuck to the walls and the windows,
it totally coated the floor,
there was turkey attached to the ceiling,
where there'd never been turkey before.

It blanketed every appliance,
It smeared every saucer and bowl,
there wasn't a way I could stop it,
that turkey was out of control.

I scraped and I scrubbed with displeasure,
and thought with chagrin as I mopped,
that I'd never again stuff a turkey
with popcorn that hadn't been popped.

Scout Vespers

(Sing with reverence to the tune of: “Oh, Christmas Tree”)
This is a great song for retiring the colors.

Softly falls the light of day,
As our campfire fades away
Silently each scout should ask
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honor bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and Have I dared
Everything to be prepared?

Listen Lord, O Listen Lord
as I whisper soft and low
Bless my Mom and bless my Dad
there is something they ought to know
I will keep my honor bright
the Oath and Law will be my guide
And Mom and Dad this you should know
deep in my heart I love you so.

Quietly we join as one,
Thanking God for Scouting fun
May we always love and share
Living in peace beyond compare
As Scouts may we find,
Friendships true with all mankind.

Quietly we now will part,
Pledging ever in our heart
To strive to do our best each day
As we travel down life's way
Happiness we'll try to give
Trying a better life to live
Till all the world
Be joined in love
Living in peace under skies above

(This verse focuses on our Cub Scouts)

As the night comes to this land,
On my promise I will stand
I will help the pack to go
As our pack helps me to grow
Yes, I'll always give good will
I'll follow my Akela still
And before I stop to rest
I will do my very best.
