Council Officers Elections

My Brothers All,
The State Office is already receiving forms 185’s from councils that have already had their elections.

Please Review Elections in Sec 128 on page 54 of the Rules of the order that state your elections must happen in the last two weeks of May or the first two weeks of June each year. If your Bylaws say something else then you need to change them they can not conflict with the Supreme rules of the Order.

On Page 54,

Election SEC. 128. All officers, except the Financial Secretary, Lecturer and Chaplain, shall be elected annually, by ballot, at a regular business meeting held between the fifteenth day of May to and including the fifteenth day of June each year, and with the exception of the Trustees who shall serve for terms not to exceed three years as provided by Section 145, said officers shall hold their offices for the term of one year from the first day of July following, and until their successors are elected and qualified. Provided, however, that elective officers of councils identified with colleges and universities may be elected at a regular business meeting held between the first day of March to and including the first day of June in each year after written notice is given to the members of the date selected.

RCIA to Knight

My Brothers,

With the beginning of Lent and the Easter season, a potential source for new members at your parish is the RCIA program. RCIA stands for "Right of Christian Initiation for Adults." Perhaps you have seen the RCIA candidates receiving prayers and special intentions at the Mass you attend.

RCIA candidates are adults converting to the Catholic Faith. Some you may already know as friends, husbands or wives of parishioners at your church. RCIA candidates typically complete their course of study during Easter and are given two charges: 1) become active in a Church ministry and 2) continue their Faith Formation. What better way for the men to fulfill these objectives than by joining the Knights of Columbus?

If you are not already actively involved in the RCIA program, contact the RCIA director at your parish and introduce yourself. Ask to give a talk about the Knights of Columbus at one of their meetings. Sponsor a special breakfast or reception for the RCIA candidates celebrating their newfound Faith. Invite the men to join the Knights of Columbus. Schedule an Admission Degree shortly after Easter welcoming them to your council.

Here is a short presentation that can be used to introduce the RCIA candidates at your parish to the Knights of Columbus. If your computer is connected to the Internet, there is also a working link to a short video on Slide 7.

Men recently admitted to the Church are promising prospects. By recruiting them the RCIA graduate is powerfully aided in living out his new faith. Approach them and you are sure to increase your membership!

May God bless,
Dave Abbott
Interim State Membership Director

Worthy California Knight of Columbus Leadership Team,

As your councils start the submission process of the STSP-CAs for the awards competition for the state convention, I though it would be helpful if I sent you the key components of submitting the awards and list of the awards that will be presented. I hope that this information will be helpful. It is a good thing that our brother knights have worked so hard to serve God's church and His community. It is also a good thing that they should be recognized for it.

I wish you well,

$500,000 Plus for People With Intellectual Disabilities

Worthy District Deputies and State Leaders,

With this weeks turning we crossed the half million dollar point. Thanks for everything you do. While this is great news, the down side is we are over $75,000 behind last year at this point and more concerning is the over 100 Councils (about one third) that participated last year that haven't turned in anything.

Please let them know its not too late. While the cut off of DD and Chapter Awards is 1 April, the drive and Council recognition continues until the end of the Columbian year.

Thanks for Supporting People with Intellectual Disabilities

Dr. Ray Warriner, PSD
President

Grant Application Information and MARCH 15 POSTMARK Deadline

Brother Knights,

Once again for the fifth year, the Frank Nigro Columbian Foundation Supporting People with Intellectual Disabilities, Inc. is continuing to award $10.000 grants. At the January 5, 2018 Board of Directors meeting the board authorized up to four $10, 000 grants to be presented at the California State Convention in May 2018. The grant application forms and information submissions must be postmarked by March 15, 2018.

This is a $10,000 BONUS PROGRAM for councils who are already having fund raising drives to support their selected organization or special project for assisting people with intellectual disabilities. While there is an emphasis for October fund drives, the fund raising events can be held year around and reported to participate in the $10,000 grant program. However, the deadline for submission of the application form is that it must be postmarked by MARCH 15, 2018.

The Grant Applications committee has made the requirements very simple as explained in the instructions Form 101. Simply include the completed signed application form 100 and attachments and a copy of the IRS letter of 501c3 determination letter and submit by the MARCH 15 postmark.

I strongly urge that the submission be mailed using registered mail ($1.45). This provides proof of meeting the March 15, 2018 deadline, enables tracking of progress on USPS website, and provides a signed returned receipt of delivery that the submission was received by the committee.

The Grant Award winners and check presentations will be announced at the California State Convention in May 2018.

Also included with this letter as attachments are copies of the Grant Instructions Form 100 and the Grant Application Form 101 for your use.

If you have any questions, contact me at (562) 429-5430, m2sjm@earthlink.net, or 3686 Conquista Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90808-2808.

Fraternally,
Michael E, Miller, Chairman Grant Application Committee

Council participation is simple. To learn more about this great program, visit kofc.org/coats. To order coats for kids, click here. Or, should you like to find more details about the program, contact the Fraternal Mission Department at 203-752-4270 or .
